Young Sun 35 Hull #98 Demo boat for Lake Michigan Yacht Sales.
LMYS did not fair well in the early 80's due to high interest
rates and a new luxury tax. I did sell two boat and kept the
demo boat for myself. I named hull #98 Gamgee after a character
J.R.R.Tolken's book Lord of the Rings.
| This is Gamgee in the original teak cradle. This teak was rejected for boat building due to poor quality. I resold most of the cradle and kept the better wood for little projects or minor repairs. |
|
| First launch with my father in red, family friend Brook's Hull and myself. Note white bottom paint is "TBT" which was later banned. Not a good idea to use bottom paint the same color as the hull. One can not see where the bottom paint has flaked off. |
|
| Splashed and motoring home to the mooring. Mom at the helm on a very cold spring day. Gamgee was kept at Whitelake Michigan and Chicago. |
|
| My dad loved the boat, his home away from home. This boat also triggered his desires to live aboard and go cruising again. |

|
| The crew having a good time while I do all the work. The Asia man I had known from racing, and had stayed at his parent's house in Taiwan. |
